Remaining Beauty - Cotyledon orbiculata - Pig’s ear

Watercolour on paper
96 cm H x 79 cm W

Watercolour on Arches 300gsm hot pressed paper. The garden looked like scorched earth as the hot, summer sun shone brightly. Amongst the sunburnt, thirsty plants, I spotted the brightly coloured flowers of this resilient, humble succulent. The flowers appeared liked jewels in the garden. The searing sun shone on the succulents leaves creating strong contrasts in colour and shade. The stems and leaves made beautiful, flowing, curved forms. I marvelled at this exquisite, resilient plant.
