Actinotus helianthi - flannel flower

Watercolour on paper
46 cm H x 35 cm W

The flannel flower is one of my favourite Australian native wildflowers. From an artist's perspective I enjoy the challenge of trying to capture the velvety, not quite white characteristics of this beautiful plant. From an historical perspective it is interesting to note that it was one of the initial specimens taken by Joseph Banks and his colleague Solander in their expedition to our Australian east coast some 250 years ago.
